Stay the Course of your Job Search This Summer

by Kim on June 19, 2017

If you are in the midst of a job search, try not to take vacation from it just because summer is here. Many people assume that hiring does not take place in the summer, but that’s not always true. Sure, there are more vacations scheduled and it can be harder to nail down an interview, but this a great time to re-energize your search when many of your competitors have slowed down or even stopped searching.

Utilize this time to revitalize your executive resume if you find it hasn’t been working for you. Sometimes a new set of eyes will see areas of improvement or have some ideas as to why it isn’t effective. Take advantage of this time to research company targets, identify key decision makers, renew important networking contacts or join a casual networking organization that is also taking advantage of the summer months with fun events.

This also a good time to review other career marketing documents such as your LinkedIn profile, cover letters and networking cards if you use them. Make sure you have an updated calendar which can sometimes take a backseat when you’re busy enjoying your summer – you want to make yourself readily available since it is a little harder to get in front of key decision makers or at least with someone who can get you there.

You can still enjoy your summer while keeping your job searching options open. A few organizational steps are all it takes to be both resume and job-search ready.
